How to Solve Blood Relation Question shortcut and tricks

How to solve blood relation test
Blood relation questions in bank po and clerk:In most of the bank exams you may find Blood relation questions.Sadly they are enough to cause headache for you.Here onwards no need to scratch your head while solving blood relation test.Here I am sharing few shortcuts for solving blood relation type questions.Before proceeding kindly read and understand following relations

  • Mother’s or father’s son = Brother
  • Mother’s or father’s daughter = Sister
  • Mother’s or father’s sister = Aunt
  • Mother’s or father’s brother = Uncle
  • Mother’s or father’s father = Grandfather
  • Mother’s or father’s mother = Grandmother
  • Son’s wife = Daughter-in-Law
  • Daughter’s husband = Son-in-Law
  • Husband’s or wife’s sister = Sister-in-Law
  • Husband’s or wife’s brother = Brother-in-Law
  • Brother’s or sister's son = Nephew
  • Brother’s or sister's daughter = Niece
  • Uncle or aunt’s son or daughter = Cousin
  • Sister’s husband = Brother-in-Law
  • Brother’s wife = Sister-in-Law
  • Grandson’s or Grand daughter’s daughter = Great grand daughter
  • Only son/daughter of your father/mother=you/yourself
  • Only son of grand father/grand mother=Father
  • Only daughter of grand father/grand mother=Mother
  • Son of only son/daughter=Grand son
  • Daughter of only son/daughter=Grand Daughter
Blood relation test can be classified into three categories
  1. Introduction type
  2. Identification type and
  3. Coded blood relation

1.Blood relation questions Introduction type

In this type of questions one person introduces another.

Eg1:Introducing Rajesh,Diya said "His brother's father, is the only son of my grand father".How is Diya related to Rajesh?
To solve this type of question break the sentence at "is" and resolve two sides separately and equate to get the final answer.
Resolving at "is" we get two halves , "His brother's father" and "the only son of my grand father"
Left half-His brother's father ->His father
Right-the only son of my grand father->Father(Diya's father).
His father=Diya's father.
So,answer is "Diya is the sister of Rajesh"

Eg2: Tom introduces Riya as the daughter of the only son of my father’s wife. How is Riya related to Tom?

Give question is same as  Tom introduces Riya."Riya is the daughter of the only son of my father’s wife".So while solving this kind of problems break the sentence at "as".

Left half-Riya.
Righthalf-daughter of the only son of my father’s wife.
Resolve the right half from right to left
my father’s wife->mother
the only son of mother->Tom himslef
Daughter of Tom->daughter
Riya=daughter
So answer is Riya is the daughter of Tom

2.Blood relation questions Identification type

Eg1:A has 3 children. B is the brother of C and C is the sister of D, E who is the wife of A is the mother of D. There is only one daughter of the husband of E. what is the relation between D and B?

These type of problems can be solved with the help of diagrams.Assign some symbols to relations and persons.
For example

=====   for married couples
--------   for siblings
             for parent and child relation
'M'         for male and
'F'          for female

Draw the diagram using above symbols
boold relation reasoning shortcut
From the figure it is clear that D and B are brothers.

Eg2.There are 6 members in a family,P,Q.R,S,T and U.

  1. P and U are married couple.
  2. R is the grand son of S.
  3. T is the sister-in-law of U.
  4. S is the husband of mother-in-law of U.
  5. Q is the niece of T.
  6. P is the father of Q.

Questions:

  1. What is the relation between U and Q?
  2. How many females are there in the family?
  3. Is R  the only grandchild of S?

Draw the diagram using symbols
boold relation reasoning shortcut
Answers:

  1. U is the mother of R
  2. Three females are there in the family
  3. No,S has two grand children.Q and R

3.Coded blood relation questions for bank exams

In coded blood relation questions relations are represented by codes.For examples
   'A * B' means 'A is mother of B';
   'A  / B' means 'A is daughter of B'
   'A + B' means 'A is husband of B';
   'A − B' means 'A is sister of B'.

Eg:In P-Q+R*S how is P related to S?
You can solve this type of problems directly or by using diagram method

boold relation reasoning shortcut

Answer:S is the Aunt of S

Tips for solving blood relation questions
  • While drawing diagram depict the same generation members(siblings and cousins) horizontally and parent-child relation vertically.
  • If the relation is through father, then it is referred as"Paternal" and if it is through mother it is "Maternal".Eg(Father of father-Paternal grand father,Father of mother-Maternal grand father,Brother of father-Paternal uncle,Brother of mother-Maternal uncle ect..)

Alphabet coding and decoding

Alphabet coding and decoding  questions are inevitable part of IBPS,SBI,RRB and other bank exams .This is one of the sections from which you can score full mark if you pay little attention. As you know , in bank exams speed and accuracy matters .My advice is that ,write down positions of letters from both side as shown below before commencement of exam.(Even though exam is online, blank papers will be provided for rough work).This will definitely save few minutes during  exam.
alphabet coding and decoding
 Position of letters can also be remembered by the formula “EJOTY”.
coding and decoding for bank exams
E is 5th from left ,j is 10th from left and so on..
You can also use another formula “BGLQV” for getting position of letters in reverse order .
                                                     coding and decoding for bank exams
B is 25th from right ,G is 20th from right and so on..
Position of a letter from left=27- position of letter from right.

Shortcuts for Solving Inequality Questions for Bank exams

Inequality shortcuts and tricks:In every bank exams ,in reasoning section ,there will be at least 3-5 questions on inequality. If you are ready to spend 2 minutes reading this article, I assure you full mark from inequality in coming bank exams. Before going into the questions let us go through the table below, which gives you an idea,’what conclusion can be drawn from an inequality statement.

No need to ‘memorize’ this table as whole. Just read and understand .Now let us practice some simple problems.

Inequality questions for bank exams

Question1)Satements:A>B,B=C≥D

                Conclusions:1.A=C
                                  2.A>C
                                  3.D>A

                Options.1 .1 and 2 are true
                            2. 2 and 3 are true
                            3. Only 2 is true
                            4. Either 1 or 2 is true
Solution:
Relation between A and C
A>B=C
A>C
Relation between A and D
A>B,B=C≥D
A>B=C≥D
A>C≥D
A>D
D<A
So answer is option 2
Question2.Statements P<Q≥R,R≤S=T,T<U
              Conclusions:1.P≥T
                                2.R≤U
                                3.P<S

                Options:1. 1 and 2 are true
                            2. 2 and 3 are true
                            3.only 3 is true
                            4.None is true
Solutions:
Relation between P and T
P<Q≥R,R≤S=T
P<Q≥R≤S=T
P<Q≥R≤T
P<Q>R≤T or P<Q=R≤T
P<Q>R<T or P<Q>R=T or P<Q=R=T or P<Q=R<T
P<Q>R<T or P<Q>T or P<T
Either P=T or P<T or P>T(no definite conclusion)
Relation between R and U
R≤S=T,T<U
R≤S=T<U
R≤S<U
R<U
Relation between P and S
S=T
So relation between P and S is same as P and T
So answer is option4.

Coded inequality for bank PO and clerk

In coded inequality , inequality symbols (<,>,=,≥ and ≤) are replaced by some other symbols.

Coded Inequality questions for bank exams

In the following questions, the symbols $,@,%, & and # are used with the following meanings as illustrated below:
‘P&Q’ means ‘P’ is greater than ‘Q’.
‘P%Q’ means ‘P’ is smaller than ‘Q’.
‘P@Q’ means ‘P’ is either greater than or equal ‘Q’.
‘P$Q’ means ‘P’ is either smaller than or equal to ‘Q’.
‘P#Q’ means ‘P’ is equal to ‘Q’.
Assuming the Statements given in each of the question as true deduce which of the two inferences 1 and 2 is/are true.
A) If only conclusion I is true.
B) If only conclusion II is true.
C) If either conclusion I or II is true.
D) If neither conclusion I nor II is true.
E) If both conclusions I and II are true1)

Q1.statement N%P,P&R,R$L
Inference:1. N$L
               2. N@L
Solution: lets rewrite the statement and inference
Q1.statement N<P,P>R,R≤L
Inference:1 .N≤L
               2. N>L
Relation between N and L
N<P>R<L or N<P>R=L
N<P>R<L or N<P>L
Either N<L,N>L or N=L ,which can be also written as N≤L or N>L.( Note:N≤L and N>L will form complementary pair)
Thus answer is C.
(Tip: successive similar signs ‘> > > > > …>’ will be replaced by a single ‘>’ and ‘<<<<<<<<…..<’ will be replaced by a single ‘<’. No replacement is possible if signs are mixed like ‘< >’ or ‘> <’ )

Solving Syllogism questions for bank PO using venn diagram

Syllogism questions for bank exams:In IBPS PO and Clerk exams ,atleast 5 syllogism questions will be there under reasoning section.Usually in clerk exams,questions are asked  from two statement syllogism,and in PO/MT exams, "4 or 5 statement syllogism questions" are asked. So,Inorder do well in IBPS CWEs, thorough understanding of syllogism is required.Here we are sharing "Venn diagram method for solving 3,4 statement syllogism" questions that are asked in bank exams. Before reading this please make sure that you have already  read previous article on syllogism "Solving syllogism using Venn diagram".

<

3,4 statement Syllogism practice questions for bank po

Q1.Statements
1.All Watches are Keys
2.All Keys are Cats
3.Some Bats are Cats

Conclusions:
1.Some Cats are watches
2.All Keys are Watches
3.Some Bats are watches
4.Some Bats being Key is a possibility.

Options :
1.All 4 conclusions  are true
2.Only 1 and 4 follows
3.only 2 and 3 follows
4.none of the conclusions follows

ANS:2

Explanation:
Look at conclusions 1,2 and 3 .From fig.1 itself, you can conclude whether these conclusions are valid or not. But conclusion 4 is a possibility case. In such cases ,we have to find out whether ‘any such diagram exist where this conclusion is valid’. We know that number of diagrams are possible for a statement. So, many diagrams can be drawn for a set of statements. Modify Fig.1, incorporating possibility case(Some Bats being Key is a possibility) to get fig.2 .You can see none of the statement is violated in fig.2. So conclusion 4 holds true.

Q2.Statements
1.Some Lions are Tables
2.All Benches are tables.
3.Some Tigers are Benches
4.Some Chairs  are not Tigers

Conclusions:
1.Some Benches are Tigers
2.Some Lions are Tigers
3.Some Chairs are not Benches
4.Some Tigers are tables
5.All Chair being Table is a Possibility.

Options:
1.only 1,2,4 and 5 are true .
2.only 1,4and 5 are  true.
3.Only 1,2,3 and 4 are true.
4.none of the above.

Modified diagram (incorporating possibility conclusion in above diagram).

ANS:2

Q3.Statement:
1.All Trees are Fruits
2.All Fruits are vegetables
3.No Vegetable is Sweet.

Conclusion
1.No Fruit is Sweet
2.All Vegetables are Fruits
3.Some Sweets are Fruits
4.No Vegetable is Tree.

Options :
1.only 1 is true
2.All are true
3.Only 1 and 4 are true
4.Only 2 and 3 are true
ANS:1

Syllogism for bank exams

Solving syllogism is always confusing .No more confusion here onwards. Conventional methods are usually time consuming .It is okey if the problem is 2 statement syllogism. But it is not the case if the problem is 3,4 or 5 statement syllogism .Conventional method will eat your valuable time during exams. Please try to follow Venn diagram method explained below.
Before solving questions ,let us draw Venn diagram for possible statements.

1.Statement:”All A are B”
Possible Venn diagrams.

syllogism-venn diagram
fig1

syllogism-venn diagram
fig2

Let us see whether following conclusions follows ‘ the above statement  or not. A Conclusion follows if and only if conclusion is satisfied in all possible conditions of the statement. That means conclusion must be possible in all Venn  diagrams we have drawn .
>
syllogism-venn diagram
You can see only conclusions 2 and 3  clearly  follows .But look at the conclusions 1 and 7,there is a possibility for these  conclusions to be true.If the conclusions 1 and 7 are modified as below
1=> All A being   B is a possibility(see fig.2). and
7=> Some B  not being  A is a possibility (see fig.1).
Then the answer will be’ YES’ and ‘YES’. Hope it is clear….Now let us go to next statement

2.Statement:”some A are B”
Possible Venn diagrams.

syllogism-venn diagram
fig.3

fig4

fig.5

fig.6

Let us see whether following conclusions follows the above statement or not.

You can see only conclusion 3 clearly follows. But in some cases there is possibility for conclusions 1,2,6 and 7 to be true. If we  modify 1,2,6 and 7 as follows.
1=> All A being B is a possibility.(see fig.4 and fig.6)
2=>All B being A is a possibility.(see fig.5 and fig.6)
6=>Some A not being B is a possibility(see fig.3 and fig.5)
7=>Some B not being A is a possibility(see fig.3 and fig.4)
Then these conclusions follows the statement.

3.Statement:"Some A are not B"
 Possible Venn diagrams.

fig7
fig8
fig9

None of the conclusion follows directly. But there exist possibility for conclusion 2 to 7.If we modify them
2=>All B being A is a possibility? YES (fig.8)
3=>Some B  being A is a possibility? YES(fig.7 and fig.8)
4=>No A being B is a possibility ?YES(fig.9).
5=> No B being  A is a possibility ?YES (fig.9).
6=> Some A being  B is possibility?YES(fig.7 and fig.8).
7=> Some B  not being  A is a possibility.?YES(fig.7 and fig.9).
Hope you understood ….

4.Statement:"No A is B"
Possible Venn diagram

fig10
syllogism-venn diagram

Conclusions 4,5 and 7 follows. In this case there is only one Venn diagram possible ,therefore there is no possibility cases.
Now let us do some simple problems.

Q1)Statement :Some Pens are Pencils.
                        All Pencils are Books.
Conclusions:1.All the Books are Pencil
                     2. Some Pens are Book.
                     3. All Pen being Book is a possibility.
syllogism-venn diagram
or

 Ans:1-NO,2-YES,3-YES.

Q2)Statement:Some Dogs are Cat.
                       Some Cats are Cows.
 Conclusions:1.Some Dogs are Cows.
                     2. Some Cats are Dogs.
or

 ANS:1-NO,2-YES

Q3):Statements:All cars are Chair.
                          No Chair is Mug.
Conclusions:1.No car is mug.
                     2.All Chair are cars.

ANS:1-YES,2-NO
